At the Cornish First Principals’ Chapter meeting held on Saturday, 1st February 2025 the chapter had the pleasure of welcoming a special guest, Chris Baker, who attended as a representative of the Man Down Charity. Chris was invited to join the chapter through the initiative of the Provincial 2nd Grand Principal, Jeremy Benjamin. His presence was not only a privilege for the chapter and the companions present but also a significant opportunity to learn more about the vital work being undertaken by the Man Down Charity.
During the course of the meeting, Companions had the honor of presenting a donation to the Man Down Charity, amounting to the sum of £750. This contribution is a testament to the generosity and commitment of our members towards supporting important causes within our community.
The funds were raised through two key sources. The first portion, a sum of £500, was collected from Red Book Fines over the past twelve months. These fines primarily stem from the misdemeanors, indiscretions, and dress code infractions of members, including the Provincial Team (both past and present) and Grand Officers. While the fines are administered in good spirit, they serve a higher purpose by generating funds that contribute to charitable causes such as this.
The remaining £250 was supplemented from the newly established Provincial Charity Fund. This fund was created under the guidance and leadership of our Most Excellent Grand Superintendent with the specific intention of supporting local smaller charities, good causes, and community projects. The ethos behind the fund is to provide financial assistance where relatively modest sums can have a profound and meaningful impact.
Chris Baker’s address to the Chapter was nothing short of inspiring. He spoke with great passion and authenticity about his personal journey and how he came to be involved with the Man Down Charity. His experiences underscored the immense value of the charity’s work in supporting those struggling with mental health challenges within Cornwall. Chris highlighted the ways in which the charity has been expanding its reach, ensuring that its support services are available not just in Cornwall but also extending into various other locations across the South West.
It was evident to all in attendance that Chris’s dedication and efforts have made a significant difference in the lives of those who seek help through the charity. His commitment to assisting others and his role within the organisation are truly commendable and the All the companions within the Provincial Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Cornwall extend our heartfelt thanks to Chris for joining us and for the incredible work he and his colleagues at Man Down Charity continue to do.
We also wish to express our gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this donation possible. It is through the collective goodwill and efforts of our members that we can continue to support important community initiatives and help make a difference where it matters most.
